Limits
I am a BIG believer in limits. Ninety nine percent of the time. One thing that absolutely should be limited: term limits for ANYONE for government. Nancy Pelosi (or Bella Legosi as my Dad used to call her) has NO business being in Congress. NONE. AT ALL. Like zip. Zero. Nada. Nil. None. She should have been put out to pasture 30 plus years ago. My goodness. I'll refrain from continuing how I feel about the old hag before I get into trouble.
The MAIN thing I think should be limited is how much screen time people use. Cell phones specifically. They were created to be addictive. Look around you: see how many people today are on their phones. Whether they are at work, in a car, driving the car, walking down the street.... I'm truly surprised there aren't people falling down everywhere (like in all the hysterical memes), or getting hit by vehicles, because they are constantly looking down. Maybe if they DID step in a hole every now and again they'd get it.
What disgusts me more than anything is seeing families at a restaurant, and the kids each have tablets, and I mean LITTLE kids, like 3 or 4, and the parents are on their phones. Recently I was at a restaurant with Doug, and this man came in with his daughter, who was *maybe* two. He sat down, she was sitting next to him in the waiting area at first, but then she got down. She took a few steps away, and then went back. Then she took a few more, and kind of looked around. It took way longer for Dad to notice she wasn't within arm's reach, and he called her back. Then he went straight back to his phone. That little girl was about 18" from the outside door leading to the street before he finally realized his daughter wasn't in sight.
PEOPLE. What is it going to take for us to stop worshiping our stupid phones???? I will be the first to admit that I'm on my phone too much. However, when I had a child, HE came first in everything. EVERY thing. If that man had lost his daughter?? I mean, if there weren't a lot of people there to see me (and if I was a horrible human being), I could have snatched that little girl up and he never would have realized until it was too late! And for what? Your football scores? Your stock numbers? Replying to a text? I just have one question:
IS. IT. WORTH. IT?
People need to wake up and realize that cell phones are an accessory. They are a tool. They are NOT a PRIORITY! Dad, get off that dang phone and LOOK at your daughter. Because you're going to blink, and see that she is a young lady, with a phone of her own, and she will NOT have time for YOU just like YOU didn't have time for HER.
Some things do NOT have limits. Love. Generosity. Kindness. There are so many other things you could spend your time doing limit-lessly. Think about it. I'm SURE everyone reading this can come up with an idea that could replace mindless time on your phone. I know your family will appreciate it. My feeling is that YOU will too.
